WUBAF DELEGATES VISITED MAMPONG D/A BASIC SCHOOL, SHAI HILLS TO ASSESS THEIR NEEDS
The sun was shining brightly as the three-member delegation from WONADEM UBA Foundation arrived at Mampong D/A Basic School in Shai Hills. Led by Mr. Emmanuel Doga, the team was determined to uncover the truth about the school's conditions and identify areas that needed urgent attention.
As they walked into the school compound, they were greeted by some female teachers who seemed eager to share their stories. The team was soon ushered into a meeting with the Head Teacher, Mr. Goodwin Ntim, and other key stakeholders.
The Head Teacher shared the school's history, from its humble beginnings as a private institution founded by Mr. Peter Oko in 1985 to its current state of disrepair. He spoke about the challenges they faced, including the activities of nearby quarry companies that had damaged buildings and created cracks in classroom structures.
As the team began their assessment, they were shocked by the deplorable conditions they encountered. Classrooms lacked proper doors and windows, leaving pupils vulnerable to the elements and trespassers. Furniture was scarce, with pupils sitting on bare floors or sharing dual desks.
The team's camera personnel, Madam Gloria Dewornu, captured images of pupils using improvised kitchen stools and sitting under trees due to lack of classrooms. The team's secretary, Mr. Freeman Ahiankui, took note of the pressing needs, including adequate dual desks, tables, and chairs for KG pupils, and cupboards for storage.
Despite the challenges, the team saw resilience and determination in the pupils and teachers. They met with the PTA Chairman, Mr. Ebenezer Oko Tetteh, and the SMC Chairperson, Mad. Rosemond Boakyewaa, who shared their concerns and hopes for a better future.
After conducting a thorough assessment, the team compiled their findings and recommendations. They urged stakeholders, government agencies, NGOs, and corporate bodies to support the school with the listed needs to provide a safe, secure, and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
As the team left the school, they carried with them a sense of purpose and responsibility. They knew that their report would highlight the urgent needs of Mampong D/A Basic School and inspire action to improve the quality of education for the children of Mampong and its surrounding communities.
